Hillary Clinton Announces Entrance Into 2016 Presidential Race

hillaryclintonSurprise .. or not. It was just a matter of time, right? Well, it’s official now. Hillary Clinton is running for president.

The former secretary of state’s campaign head told donors and 2008 campaign alumni, ending months of behind-the-scenes planning as she geared up for a second run at the White House.

The official tweet was quickly followed up by a vote of confidence from one of Clinton’s staunchest supporters: daughter Chelsea Clinton.

“Very proud of you Mom!” the former first daughter wrote.

Hillary made her announced via a 2 minute campaign video.

“I’m getting ready to do something too – I’m running for president,” she says. “Americans have fought their way back from tough economic times but the deck is still stacked in favor of those at the top. Everyday Americans need a champion and I want to be that champion so you can do more than just get by, you can get ahead and stay ahead.”

Clinton begins her campaign as the clear front-runner for the Democratic nomination. Her handful of potential opponents are unknown to most voters. More than half of all Democratic senators and congressmen have already endorsed her, and many senior staffers from President Obama’s past campaigns backing her as well.

She plans to focus her campaign on helping increase economic mobility and equal rights for women, as she indicated in her roll out video.

“I’m so glad she has officially decided to run for president in 2016,” New York Sen. Chuck Schumer said in his Midtown office on Sunday. “She has the experience and mindset to get results. She has the rare ability to take an understand the problems of hard-working Americans, and the rare experience to get things done.”

While Clinton is the heavy favorite for the nomination, Republicans are already taking aim at the former First Lady.

Republican National Committee spokeswoman Ali Pardo stood outside Hillary’s headquarters before the big announcement Sunday wearing a Stop Hillary shirt.

“We’ve got people on the ground all across the country. We want her to answer to her record,” she said. “She launched her camp aid under a could of secrecy … She hasn’t answered questions about emails. She hasn’t answered questions about the Clinton Foundation.”
