As Planned Parenthood faces the loss of funding with the new Trump administration, Common showed his support this past Thursday (Jan 19) by performing at a benefit concert for the organization to help raise money.
During the set, he addressed those in attendance. “I’m grateful that you guys came out to support our women,” he said. “As I was thinking about having the honor to perform for Planned Parenthood, I thought about how not only is this about our free choices that women should have to make the choices with what they want to do with their bodies, but women should also be able to have access to healthcare to be able to get what they need.”
Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards made it clear that they plan to fight for survival of the organization. “We plan to send a clear message to the incoming administration that millions of people across this country are prepared to fight attacks on reproductive health care and abortion services,” Richards said in a statement about the event.
