Pandora Will Be Added to Billboard Charts

This week it was announced that Billboard and Pandora have made an exclusive agreement that will add Pandora streaming data to the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Pandora joins other programmed music streaming services as Billboard chart contributors, including Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon and SoundCloud, as well as Slacker, Google Radio, Napster and AOL Radio, and video-on-demand platforms YouTube (including Vevo on YouTube) and VidZone.

This includes the genre-specific charts such as Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B Songs.

The data is measured by Nielsen Music, now along with Pandora’s exclusive streaming data, as well. Pandora’s data will be incorporated into the Billboard charts beginning on Feb. 11.

Pandora’s data will positively impact 35 songs on the Hot 100, nine of which improve in rank by five or more places if compared to the chart absent of Pandora data. Such songs include Rihanna’s “Sex With Me.”

“We’re thrilled to bring Pandora aboard as a contributor to our songs charts,” says Silvio Pietroluongo,‎ VP of charts and data development for Billboard. “The music tastes and listening habits of Pandora’s large and influential user base are elements that we’ve longed to include as a measure of song popularity in the Hot 100 and various other Billboard charts.”
