Nas Lands BET Mini-series

Fresh off the success of the New Edition biopic series, BET has ordered a pilot for Street Dreams, which will be based on Nas‘ life in New York City.

Jonathan Levine, who has previously helmed such films as 2008’s The Wackness, has written the pilot, which he will direct as well, with Nas serving as executive producer.

The series will take place in New York in the early ’90s, the name deriving from Nas’ 1996 single off his album It Was Written. At the center will be a young man who, like Nas, goes from life as a drug dealer in the Queensbridge projects to that of a famous rap star. It is described as a show about music, family and the trappings of the rap game.

Nas similarly played a role in the Netflix series The Get Down, providing rapped narration as the protagonist who emerged from 1970s New York to become a rap star.
