DMX Returns to Jail

DMX is headed back to jail. He was taken into custody in a Manhattan court on Tuesday morning (Jan. 30) for “failing to comply with conditions of his bail,” according to Pitchfork. He reportedly failed drug tests, a direct violation of his bail conditions.

X tested positive for opiates, cocaine and oxycodone. A judge later ruled he was a flight risk after this setback. Back in November of last year, DMX pleaded guilty to tax evasion. The Office of the U.S. Attorney of the Southern District of New York, states he “engaged in a scheme to conceal millions of dollars of income from the IRS and to avoid paying $1.7 million of tax liabilities.” At the time he was granted bail, released on $500,000 bond and ordered to attend rehab as a part of his probation.

DMX will reportedly remain in custody until the date of his tax evasion sentencing, currently set for March 29th. In a statement, DMX’s attorney Murray Richman says, “I’m saddened and disappointed. We’ll have to deal with it accordingly.” Richman states his focus will be getting DMX back into the rehab program.

U.S. Attorney Spokesman Nicholas Biase tells TMZ that prosecutors referenced a video the website posted of DMX at a St. Louis airport bar engaging with fans. In the clip, the rapper appears to be drunk and is seen consuming alcohol, which also violates his probation.
