Pharrell & August Alsina Win Big at BET, Nicki Minaj Throws Shade

Each year the BET Awards gets a little more sleeker and this year was no exception.

The big winner of the night, Pharrell Williams, kicked off the show with a performance of his “G I R L” single and then brought the crowd to their feet by bringing out Missy Elliott for a performance of her song, “Pass That Dutch.”

Chris Rock kept up the momentum as the host and held no punches back immediately addressing the Solange/ Jay Z elevator melee and taking shots at Rick Ross. “Dre has Beats, Rick Ross Dia-a-Beats.” Clearly Rozay was not feeling Chris’ humor. He quickly took to Twitter to respond: “Chris Rock washed up haaaa.”

August Alsina grabbed the Best New Artist award and then surprised everyone when he brought out Trey Songz (apparently he’s squashed the beef w/ Trey) and Chris Brown to perform his single, “I Luv This Shit.”

Another big moment of the night came from Nicki Minaj when she picked up Best Female Rapper.

“This is my fifth year winning this award. I don’t take it for granted,” Nicki says when accepting the award. “When you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it. No, no shade… no shade,” she continued, silencing rumors of her not writing her own rhymes.

Nicki continued (and kinda lost the crowd a for a moment), “really thought I was going to die,” but didn’t call for “an ambulance,” because then she would have been on TMZ.

“The other day – I didn’t tell anybody this – I really thought I was going to die. I was saying my prayers to die. I didn’t even want to call an ambulance, because I thought, ‘Well if I call the ambulance, it’s going to be on TMZ… I would rather sit there and die,” she said. “And it made me realize: I don’t care anymore what anybody got to say, I’mma do me.”
