Why Can’t Female Emcees Get Along?

Nicki_betSince the birth of hip-hop there’s always been a separation between male and female emcees.  Some delusional heads may not want to admit it, but – right or wrong – women are not considered to be on the same level as males.

Yep, we could make the obvious argument that the talent simply isn’t there. But a big part of why this exists is easy. Instead of sticking to the business of music, we (women) spend an enormous amount of energy throwing shade and daggers. Roxanne Shante v. Everybody, Azealia Banks v. the World, Lil Kim v. Foxy Brown and now Nicki and Iggy.  Before we can establish the gender as a serious contender, we kill each other off.

So at this point we all know the pressure came to a head between Nicki/ Iggy at the BET Awards this past Sunday when Nicki accepted her Best Female Hip-Hop Artist Award. (Feel free to catch up HERE.)  Yesterday Nicki broke her silence to elaborate.

And finally Iggy has responded as well. She took to IG to post the following:

She also added a comment for heads with a sense of humor.

This is my mind state about everything & the only time I’m ever going to refer to this again so go nuts guys, Enjoy it. Ps. If you squint exxxtra hard you can see tiny elves having illuminati meetings between the lines in my notes app too.

Ok…although all this foolery was unnecessary, but we were headed toward bringing the drama levels down and here comes …. Rah Digga.

WHY? You don’t care about race, yet you insult Iggy by calling her Vanilla Ice. As a woman, it’s embarrassing.  It’s the epitome of what we’ve all come to expect.

So how many mainstream female emcees are there now? Lets just say I have fingers on my one hand to spare while counting them.

Now lets compare that number to mainstream male emcees.

I’ll wait.

Someone explain why is it that Iggy and Nicki can’t exist in the same universe. At this point who even cares if Iggy writes her rhymes. This is about pettiness. This is the music business. Respect the game. When tables turn, we catch feelings now? A real hustler doesn’t have time to worry about the next man.

Males shouldn’t be jealous that’s a female trait
What you mad cause you push dimes and he sell weight?
Y’all don’t know my expenses, I gotta buy bigger a place… and more baggies, why you all aggie?
N*gga respect the game, that should be it
What you eat don’t make me shit – where’s the love?
