With that the trailer for his documentary ‘Time Is Illmatic’ has been released. The documentary is set to hit theaters this fall. The film debuted at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. It documents the story behind Nasir Jones’ prolific first album featuring commentary from his peers (Alicia Keys, Busta Rhymes, Pharrell), family, and Nas himself.
“We wanted to tell the story of Illmatic as it relates to our generation, something bigger than just the music,” the film’s writer/producer Erik Parker told VIBE. “Nas actually spoke for many of us during that time period and he did it in a way that no one else did. And we wanted to make sure that story connected. Outside of just the music.”
“I gave you what the streets felt like, sounded like, tasted like,” he recalls.
Time Is Illmatic is slated for an Oct. 1 release in conjunction with a tour of the same name.
