I almost never carry cash. In fact, I’ve been known to even travel without so much as $10 to my name. I swipe that debit card for most transactions and I’m pretty good about being aware of my monetary situation. I wouldn’t say I budget to the penny, but “I’m aware.” What I’m pretty bad at is the actual whereabouts of my card.

I’ve misplaced it on more than one occasion. Having a big purse or sometimes no purse at all doesn’t help. I’ve thrown it in my back jean pocket or I’ll lose it in my bottomless purse for days at a time when in the rush of leaving a check-out point. I admit, there’s a certain arrogance that I’ll find out quick enough if someone happens to take and use my card. But that’s on the back-end. When it comes to any sort of identity or property theft, preventions should be made up front. That means keeping up with my debit card, credit cards and license as well as 1) shredding all docs which could be traced back to my identity (this means junk mail too) and 2.) making sure I only use secure and credible websites for purchases. If you doubt the website, don’t use it. That’s my motto. You’re probably saving your credit and computer trouble. (Here’s a good link with more details.)

Now being hacked is a little different, but still a reminder to myself to be more careful. Word is about a dozen big wigs in entertainment and politics — including Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder — have had their financial details hacked and passed onto a website.

The hacker(s), which also victimized the likes of Paris Hilton, Ashton Kutcher, Vice President Biden and FBI Director Robert Mueller, has sparked an investigation by the LAPD, whose chief, Charlie Beck, was also had, according to TMZ.com.

The information stolen and published included social security numbers, mortgage accounts, credit card and bank accounts, and car loans. Of course no one is revealing the recipient website.

Sounds like these hackers want to go to jail. Foolery at its best. How much do want to bet they’re a couple of teenagers. SMH … The 2nd “Who does this” of the day.
