{"id":1895,"date":"2013-11-07T23:05:12","date_gmt":"2013-11-08T04:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ohsodj.com\/?p=1895"},"modified":"2013-11-07T23:05:12","modified_gmt":"2013-11-08T04:05:12","slug":"jay-z-hit-with-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ohsodj.com\/?p=1895","title":{"rendered":"Jay Z Hit With Lawsuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohsodj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/hv.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1218\" alt=\"hv\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohsodj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/hv.jpg?resize=250%2C247\" width=\"250\" height=\"247\" \/><\/a>When it rains it pours.<\/p>\n<p>TufAmerica Inc. has hit Jay Z and his record companies with a copyright infringement lawsuit Wednesday, claiming he illegally sampled a funky late 1960s jam without permission to jazz up the hit 2009 track \u201cRun This Town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They argue Jay Z should face the music because it owns the exclusive rights to \u201cHook &amp; Sling,\u201d a 1969 number by singer Eddie Bo and producer Al Scramuzza.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cRun This Town,\u201d which also features Rihanna and Kanye West, samples \u201cHook &amp; Sling\u201d dozens of times, the federal suit alleges.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, the catchy hip-hop hit is all about doing wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Hov is already under fire for his partnership with Barneys New York in the wake of multiple allegations by black shoppers that they were profiled by the high-end department store.<\/p>\n<p>Tuf seeks proceeds from \u201cRun This Town\u201d and damages to be determined at trial, plus a court order to halt \u201cfurther distribution and exploitation\u201d of the Eddie Bo song.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint names Jay Z, his Roc-A-Fella Records, LLC, Atlantic Recording Corp. and several other companies as defendants.<\/p>\n<p>The suit is the third complaint filed by TufAmerica against Roc-A-Fella in Manhattan federal court this year.
