Nike Sportswear\u2019s Senior Creative Director & Lead Designer Al Baik shared the following.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no other shoe that connects to sport, music, fashion, art, the street and the city all at the same time. The most ubiquitous Air Force 1 is the white-white. For the 35th anniversary, we selected collaborators who are impacting future generations across culture. Their brief was filtered through the white-white lens. The design brief was to remain classic and recognizable to the Air Force 1 while connecting to each collaborator\u2019s life personally and the fields they represent.\u201d<\/p>\n
Travis’ collab is a white, velcro upper customizable Air Force 1 low sneaker with reflective accents on the canvas. Other features of the shoe include three different Swoosh logos that are attachable to the sneaker\u2019s upper, custom patches with Travis\u2019 record label, Cactus Jack, and his grill.<\/p>\n
On the shoe design with Travis, Baik shared, “When we first met with Travis, the first thing he said was, \u2018I\u2019m the acid of rap.\u2019 It was a prompt to take a classic but then really trip it out. We brought this idea to life by making the binding around the canvas reflective, so when it hits light, it reflects various colors…..At first glance, it\u2019s seemingly one color, but at a different angle, it has layers and depth to it. To mix up the look, the swoosh is Velcro and comes with three different articulations of the Swoosh. Customizable patches are based on his label artwork, and the dubrae is comprised of Travis\u2019 grill.\u201d<\/p>\n
Along with Travis Scott, Virgil Abloh, Don C, Kareem \u201cBiggs\u201d Burke and Errolson Hugh are rolling out their own iterations of AF1.<\/p>\n
Nike and Travis Scott\u2019s Air Force 1 Low will release on Sat., Dec. 2, at select Nike retailers nationwide.<\/p>\n
