{"id":2810,"date":"2014-01-15T11:31:50","date_gmt":"2014-01-15T16:31:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ohsodj.com\/?p=2810"},"modified":"2014-01-15T11:31:50","modified_gmt":"2014-01-15T16:31:50","slug":"kanye-west-sues-coinye-creators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ohsodj.com\/?p=2810","title":{"rendered":"Kanye West Sues Coinye Creators"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohsodj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/kanwest-ohsodj2.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1430\" alt=\"kanwest.ohsodj\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohsodj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/kanwest-ohsodj2.jpg?resize=250%2C250\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohsodj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/kanwest-ohsodj2.jpg?w=250&amp;ssl=1 250w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ohsodj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/kanwest-ohsodj2.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>Kanye means business.<\/p>\n<p>Days after Kanye West\u2019s lawyer sent a cease-and-desist letter to the anonymous coders behind Coinye, the team has now filed a trademark infringement lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Defendants have willfully and admittedly traded upon the goodwill and notoriety of Kanye West, one of the most famous entertainers and brand names in the world,&#8221; claims the suit filed in Manhattan federal court, which seeks unspecified damages.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The suit refers to COINYE as a &#8220;crypto-currency&#8221; because it exists only as computer code, not in any physical form.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In interviews with the press, defendants brazenly admit that they adopted the marks COINYE WEST, COINYE and COYE to directly associate their newly minted crypto-currency with Mr. West,&#8221; the suit states.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With each day that passes, Mr. West&#8217;s reputation is irreparably harmed \u2026 Consumers are likely to mistakenly believe that Mr. West is the source of these digital coins,&#8221; the suit alleges.<br \/>\nTo demonstrate the problem, the suit lists 18 tweets posted by consumers about the new currency.<\/p>\n<p>Digital coin exchange sites 0DayCoins.com, Coinye-Exchange.com and Newchg.com are named as defendants in the suit, along with Amazon.com, which provides web hosting services.<\/p>\n<p><em>Somehow I don&#8217;t believe the Coinye creators care. I think they just wanted the attention. Too bad that may come at a pretty steep price &#8230; that is unless they&#8217;ve got a mastermind lawyer behind this whole stunt.
