This year, the magnitude of that moment has been remembered in a week-long series of events which ended in remarks from President Obama on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial this afternoon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:.1pt 0;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri;\">As President Obama spoke, a trend on Twitter &#8211; #AdvancingtheDream \u2013 developed.\u00a0 The hashtag represented reflections of how people are keeping Dr. King\u2019s dream alive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri;\">Admittedly, I am one of the people that sees change happening at a slower pace than most.\u00a0 No one&#8217;s burning crosses in my yard or calling me derogatory names to my face, but I would be less than honest if I said I felt equal.\u00a0 So it was important for me today to reflect on my contribution toward change. \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri;\">Mentorship is my contribution.\u00a0 Since \u201905 I\u2019ve been a mentor to teenage girls in my community.\u00a0 I\u2019ve seen girls literally grown from a child into women with college degrees.\u00a0 It\u2019s a rewarding feeling to know you were a part of that growth process in some way. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri;\">I\u2019m also strongly entertaining the pursuit of a PhD so I can share my experiences at a collegiate level.\u00a0 I\u2019ll keep you posted on that.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri;\">What are you doing to Advance the Dream?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Today marked the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr\u2019s \u201cI Have A Dream\u201d speech.\u00a0 Dr. King&#8217;s address, delivered to 250,000 supporters, immortalized the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
