So after Rick Ross proclaimed he ate pears as part of his weight loss regime apparently other people coincidentally started eating them too. According to Modern Farmer, Ricky’s decision to tap into the pear market inflated their presence on social media. Here’s what USA Pears’ spokeswoman Kathy Stephenson had to say regarding Ricky’s contributions.

“On behalf of our 1,600 pear growers from the Northwest region, we are pleased that Rick has mentioned the health benefits of pears,” Stephenson writes in an email to Modern Farmer, adding that pears provide 24 percent of the recommended daily intake of fiber, which helps curb an appetite. “Overall, we could not be more pleased with our message being delivered to a new, young and hip demographic.”

They also credited Ross for helping their twitter account land hundreds of new followers.
