Tea Spilled: Could Jay Z Be Leaving TIDAL?

tidalSay it ain’t so. Don’t tell me this venture was in vain. Word on the street is that Jay Z may be pulling out of TIDAL.

Hits Daily Double recently dropped a bomb alleging that a big driver in the change of heart could point back to major funding that never materialized.

Equally a blow to the operational success is the loss of key executives. Following the loss of Tidal’s second CEO, Peter Tonstad, an array of upper-management executives have been jumping ship. Hits Daily Double reports that not only has SVP Label and Artist Relations Zena Burns bailed, but that in the past two weeks Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Geisler has accepted a similar post at Saatchi & Saatchi.

Business Development, Business Affairs Jennifer Justice is also rumored to have abandoned ship. Interestingly, Justice joined Roc Nation as general counsel in 2010, and not only served as Jay Z’s personal lawyer, but oversaw Roc Nation Nation’s business deals, partnerships and strategic development, including the Samsung distribution deal for Magna Carta Holy Grail.

And one more thing that’s a thorn in Jay’s side is that pesky $50 million lawsuit the company was hit with from Cash Money. Cash Money is suing Tidal for streaming Lil Wayne’s latest album – Free Weezy – claiming they have exclusive rights to Lil Wayne’s music, and saying it was “a desperate and illegal attempt to save their struggling streaming service.”
