Fetty Wap and Def Loaf Lead Forbes’ Hip-Hop Cash Princes List

fetty-wap-fetty-wap-album-coverFor the third year in a row, Forbes has announced its Hip-Hop Cash Princes list for 2016, a look at rap acts who have the potential to earn Cash King status in 2017. Rap legend Lovebug Starski along with list alum Hit-Boy, radio/TV personality Charlamagne Tha God, Atlantic Records chief Craig Kallman and three FORBES staffers handpicked the list of ten of the most promising acts under the age of 30.

To no surprise, Fetty Wap leads the list.

“He’s earned two Grammy nominations and seems to have solidified himself as one of the big names in hip-hop going forward,” said Forbes writer Zack O’Malley Greenburg.

DeJ Loaf follows. The 24-year-old Detroit MC is building on the success of her 2014 hit “Try Me” and her EP #AndSeeThatsTheThing which peaked at no. 47 on the Billboard 200 in 2015.

Logic, whose real name is Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, also made the cut. After his mixtapes helped him land a deal with Def Jam in 2013, he went on to release two near-chart-topping albums, most recently last year’s The Incredible True Story, which debuted at No. 3 on Billboard’s album chart with sales of more than 135,000 units.

“Logic is interesting because he doesn’t get radio play, but he has one of those cult-like followings fueled by social media and they actually support him when his album drops,” says Charlamagne. “That fan base is going to give him staying power. I would rather have real, loyal love from a couple hundred thousand people than fake love from millions that may or may not translate into any revenue.”

G-Eazy, Joey Bada$$, Metro Boomin, and Little Simz also appear on the list. Check out a full run-down of the Cash Princes below.
