Travis Scott Inks Deal With Universal Music Publishing Group

Congrats go to Travis Scott. He has signed a worldwide deal with Grand Hustle Publishing/Universal Music Publishing Group, UMPG chairman and CEO Jody Gerson has announced. This means Trav’s entire catalogue will be represented, including Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, which holds the top spot on this week’s Billboard 200 chart.

“I’ve been chasing Travis Scott for years. His talent and ambitions are limitless. He’s a rock star, as well as being a brilliant writer/producer,” Gerson says.

The rapper recently discussed his new album with Billboard, explaining the inspiration behind its title: “It all stemmed from me having that frustration of just like wanting to do creative s— and just not being able to do it. It took five months for my action figure to come out. It took eight months for the Hype Williams video to come out. I just felt like I was confined in a box. I couldn’t do s— I wanted to do to help forward pop culture and music. It’s like motherf—ers still tryna hold me back so that was the whole gist of it.”

In a published report, Universal shares, “It becomes a partnership and working relationship where the publisher represents the songwriters and helps support their career.”
