Following his successful appeal of suspension, Ray Rice’s wife – Janay Rice – made an appearance on the Today show this morning (Dec. 1).
With her mother by her side, Janay gave her account of what happened the day of the infamous elevator assault maintaining that was the first time he’d ever assaulted her. In the interview, she admitted that she refuses to watch second tape of herself being knocked out by her husband, Rice welled up with tears while speaking with host Matt Lauer.
“I was so angry. I was hurt. Seeing the man that I love having everything ripped from under him made me angry. The support system that I thought we had in the Ravens, that made me angry. The fact that I knew we wouldn’t be here anymore made me angry.”
Despite all the wrong, Janay believes that her and her husband’s story has a “silver lining.”
“I feel like there’s a silver lining in all of this. I feel like God chose me and Ray for a reason, to bring awareness to what people are going through everyday. Even though it’s not what I’m going through everyday, it’s definitely brought this topic to the forefront. And we’re okay with that.”
My two-cents: SMH. Where do I begin? Perhaps she should watch the tape because she would see what we all know. THere’s no way this was their first time at the rodeo. It’s your first time assaulting a woman and you knock her cold out without batting an eye? No ma’am. We’re not buying what you’re selling. In the words of Jay Z, “You need more people.” Anyone with a conscious would have gotten immediately worried by that. Hell, she could have been dead. No… Ray Rice is a repeat offender. Trust me when I say her bobbing and weaving days are not over. We’ll hear about them again.
