Desiigner’s “Panda” Lands At No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100

desiignerDesiigner’s debut hit “Panda” has halted the nine-week reign of Rihanna’s “Work,” featuring Drake, and brings an American act to No. 1 on the Hot 100 after a record 41-week streak of leaders by foreign artists.

The year 2016 has been a whirlwind for Desiigner, first signing with Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music back in February. The Brooklyn rapper can now add a No. 1 record to his early résumé, as his smash-hit “Panda” takes top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts this week.

Along with being remixed by artists like Meek Mill, Lil’ Kim, Lupe Fiasco, T-Pain, and more, “Panda” garnered national attention when the catchy track was used by Kanye West on The Life of Pablo-cut “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2.”

Since its release, the Menace-produced track has created some controversy, as many music lovers have accused the newcomer of sounding exactly like Future.

During a recent show in Syracuse, New York, Future took a few moments to throw a quick jab at Desiigner and his own ex-fiancée Ciara. “Y’all must be Ciara or Desiigner fans or something,” said Future, which got an instant reaction from the crowd.

Grammy Award-winning producer Jermaine Dupri also spoke on the club banger over the weekend, recently tweeting the beat sounds exactly like Future’s “F*ck Up Some Commas” single from last year. “This Panda beat is the exact same beat as Commas, wow!,” tweeted Dupri, before posting a video comparing the two beats.

“Panda” currently sits at 58 million plays on SoundCloud alone.
