Sean “Diddy” Combs is reportedly teaming up with Oscar-winning director-producer Brian Grazer for a remake of Abel Ferrara’ 1990 gangster classic King of New York.
The original body of work starred Christopher Walken, Laurence Fishburne and
Wesley Snipes. Its about a former drug lord who returns from prison to wipe out his competition and distribute the profits of his lucrative operation to help the poor by building a public hospital in a ghetto neighborhood.
“Sean optioned the rights to remake ‘King of New York’ for two years,” Grazer said. “The film is a cult classic, and it will be great to remake it. Our version won’t be exactly the same, but will have the same hard-core gangster feel. Sean wants to be in it, he was amazing in ‘Monster’s Ball,’ and such strong characters sit perfectly with him.”
