Bobby Shmurda Offered Reduced Plea Deal

Bobby Shmurda appeared in a Bronx courtroom last week (Dec. 1), seven weeks after being sentenced in a Manhattan court to seven years in prison for 4th-degree conspiracy to criminally possess a weapon and 2nd-degree criminal weapons possession. The Bronx case, while unrelated to the charges Shmurda faced after his December 2014 arrest, is tied to the plea deal he accepted in Manhattan this fall.

Bobby was indicted in the Bronx in June 2015 on a felony charge of promoting prison contraband, after his girlfriend was caught passing the rapper a “sharpened metal object” during a visit while he was incarcerated at Rikers Island. The Bronx Criminal Court has jurisdiction over Rikers and the case was treated separately from his conspiracy indictment from the beginning.

At the hearing, prosecutors offered him a plea deal that would lessen his charge to attempted promoting prison contraband, which would carry a 1-4 year sentence and run concurrently with the seven years he is already serving. That offer is in accordance with the Manhattan plea Shmurda accepted in September, which stipulated that any punishment in the Bronx would run concurrently with his conspiracy sentence. Shmurda has not yet accepted the offer, according to reports.
