When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong: Teyana Taylor Dropped from Adidas

ttRemember when G.O.O.D. Music’s Teyana Taylor and Rihanna had that Twitter beef?  Here’s a quick recap:

Rihanna’s hair stylist was videoed mocking Teyana Taylor singing. Rihanna posted it and Teyana proceeded to blackout and go HAM. HAM to the point of making violent threats and posting pics of a battered Rihanna from the Chris Brown episode.

Welp, fastforward … it looks like Adidas has dropped her shoe endorsement deal.

“We have ended our relationship with Teyana Taylor and do not have any upcoming product launches with her,” a senior PR rep told MadameNoire.

When asked if the break was caused by Teyana’s recent Twitter war, the rep responded, “All I can say is that adidas partner with athletes and artists who blend well with our brand values. We evaluate our relationships with partners based on the values we hold at adidas and we don’t condone violence of any kind.”

Although they wouldn’t elaborate on Teyana, Adidas did announce that they have picked up a partnership with Kanye West.

“For 2014, we welcome to the adidas family one of the most influential cultural icons of this generation, Kanye West. Well known for breaking down boundaries across music, film, and design and partnering with our history in street wear culture and leading innovations in sport, we look forward to creating a new chapter. Details to follow.”

Guess they can only have one G.O.O.D. Music artist at a time at Adidas.  Anywho …

It doesn’t matter who started this mess. No one cares. But I tell you what people do care about. They care when things affect their bottom line also known as pockets.

As adults, self-control is pertinent – something Teyana learned the hard. I have no idea if Rihanna purposely set out to start this Twitter war. Based on her timeline I get the impression that she sometimes lacks compassion or tact. Malice … who knows.  However, one thing I did notice in this battle of words is that when the heat turned up, she knew when to cut it off and then turned around and promoted her MAC products when she had everyone’s attention.

In the streets, y’all kids call it scared.

Us adults “who still got [our] money” call it smart.

Decide which one you want to be.
