How to Slay

ri.styleNext week I will make my first visit to Vegas.  Honestly – with the exception of visits home – this will be my first domestic trip in years.  On my calming island visits, several cute bathing suits and one or two nice cover-ups are all the attire I need, but this domestic trip will pose a little more effort.  Instead of spending days by the sea, I’ll be in and out of casinos, clubs, pool parties, boutiques, restaurants.  Basically what I’m saying is I need some clothes.  Nothing crazy because admittedly I’m frugal.  I’d just like to have a couple of inexpensive pieces for the occasion.  So I’ve been scouring the web for trends.  Just as a FYI, Instagram is a hot spot for this.  As you can probably imagine, people are shameless when the camera comes out.  Selfies are endless. With that and my mission in mind  …

This week I opened Instagram to find an image with a caption that read “She’s a fashion killa.”

My thought:  Yes you are girlfriend.

Seconds later, a slew of re-posts, “likes” and comments poured in on the same image from celebs and regular joes alike.

Friends, “that Rihanna reign just won’t let up.” The girl has mastered this form of mass media and she is SLAYING any competition on a daily basis. How flattering is it to have your peers be a fan.  Love her or hate her, Rihanna is undeniably gorg and her style is fierce.

Super fierce.

So she’s been rocking this sexy, tomboy look lately.  I was a little on the fence with it initially, but now I actually like the concept.  Two looks in particular garnered much traffic.

In the first look, Rih was tre casual in a black cropped $48 Lovers + Friends “Feel My Vibe” Tee, distressed Acne jeans, Miu Miu crystal heel shoes, an oversized python clutch bag, and a $75 Fresh.I.Am snapback hat that reads “FUKK.”  I found the tee at www.loversandfriends.us and her hat at www.market.freshiam.net.

Cute right?

The second fierce look is a flared leather mini, Givenchy rottweiler tee and two-toned Saint Laurent pumps.  Since the tee alone could run you close to $300,  someone at MTV was nice enough to find a cheaper version of the entire ensemble. (Told you this outfit had the internet going nuts.) They found a cheaper version of the tee at karmaloop.com for only $16.00.  It’s actually fairly nice.  Looks like it perfectly hits the hips which is good because I hate a tee with a boy fit.

If you’re okay with wearing faux leather, there’s a cute version at debenhams.com for $22.87.  The A-line cut really gives you the versatility to dress it up or down so I give it a green light.  I think we’re all 99% sure the silver cross necklace she’s wearing is from the maker of her own clothing line, River Island.  The EXACT necklace is online for only $9.15.  Finally, put a bow on it with the FUKK hat and you’re done.

Now, armed with a concept, I’m heading to the mall.
