Drake Speaks on Macklemore Win

wylt.ohsodjI don’t always agree with Drake, but kudos to him for being in my head and speaking the real.

Drake is giving Macklemore a little grief on essentially apologizing to Kendrick Lamar for his Best Rap Album of the Year Grammy win this year.

After the Seattle duo swept the Rap categories during Music’s Highest Honors, Macklemore took to Instagram to put the world on notice about how he felt about his wins.

“You got robbed,” the “Same Love” rapper wrote to Kendrick. “I wanted you to win.”

Now, Drake chimes in and says how he really feels about that text.

“That shit was wack as fuck,” he told Rolling Stone. “I was like, ‘You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill. Take your W, and if you feel you didn’t deserve it, go get better — make better music.’ It didn’t feel genuine. Why do that? Why feel guilt? You think those guys would pay homage to you if they won?”

“This is how the world works: He made a brand of music that appealed to more people than me, Hov, Kanye and Kendrick. Whether people wanna say it’s racial, or whether it’s just the fact that he tapped into something we can’t tap into. That’s just how the cards fall. Own your shit.”

Damn right Drizzy. I believe those are the exact same words I used.

The full piece appears in the new issue of RS dropping this Friday.
