Quick Thoughts Vol. 11

Quick thoughts on pop news:

didrevoltRapper Meek Mills Ordered to Class. He may be recording an album and managing several artists on his label, but a Philly judge was not impressed by rapper Meek Mills. In fact, the judge ordered him to take an etiquette class!!! So here’s the background: Meek landed himself in a meeting with the judge after he repeatedly failed to report all of his travels to his probation officer and some of his social-media messages provoked fans to post threats to the judge, probation officer and Assistant District Attorney. Meek’s rebuttal to his rogue behavior is that he gets offered club appearances on short notice and (**said in my baby voice**) he has no way of contacting his probation officer on weekends. Now this exchange is funny….”You just gonna miss money all day,” Meek said in the meeting. “That’s the consequences of being on probation,” the ADA said in response. Finally ….someone has said what I’ve been thinking. Probation is not a game. It doesn’t mean you’re completely free. It’s an indication that there are limitations on your life based on poor decisions YOU’VE made in the past. You need to be walking a straight line, not running around like you’re above the law or better yet some rock star. I’ve actually seen some of Meek’s posts – prior to knowing he was on probation – and what I saw was quite questionable. An etiquette class is definitely unconventional but maybe quite appropriate. Here’s someone who even in a meeting with the judge has no idea how to speak in a way that shows humility for the shaky ground he’s on. I know he’s not going to be paying attention in this class, but I’m hoping via osmosis something will sink in.

Milk Anyone? So actress Alicia Silverstone is urging moms to share their milk through the “Kind Mama Milk Share” program on her blog. The service is designed to “support those mamas and babies who need a hand.” “If you have milk to share — post it! If you are in need of milk — post it! Think of all the babies we can help raise together!,” she wrote. This is quite interesting. Yet…. Sometimes I feel like breastfeeding is being pushed to the point of creating anxiety. No one explicitly says it, but it appears that people think of you as a bad mother if breastfeeding is not on the agenda.  Better yet even as a non-mother I feel some kind of way when celebrities with access to nannies and flexible schedules push some of their “best practices” on already insecure new mothers, working mothers, single struggling mothers.  It used to be a time when motherhood looked like a pie in sky.  But now with all the dietary restrictions, development milestones, playdates it’s just …. I’ll just let this sentence linger before I say too much.

Diddy Launches Revolt TV.  Did we know that Diddy had his own network – like Oprah? REVOLT TV is an upcoming music cable television channel launching October 2013. He thought that since MTV switched over to mostly reality TV there was a hole in the market. I would agree with that, but ….. do people still JUST watch videos all day? If it’s an artist I like, seeing the video once is enough. I prefer to hear the music than see it. Personally, I grew up on MTV so they can do no wrong. It’ll be interesting to see how the channel fairs. Even the royal Oprah struggled.
