What Is This Obession With Twerking

mcy.Old color photoWe can’t get away from the VMAs can we?

So the outrage over Miley Cyrus’ VMAs performance has caused mainstream America to dig a little deeper.  They needed to find out what exactly this Miley was doing on stage.

The result was a countless number of credible news sources describing in unreasonable detail twerking.

When I see an article about twerking, it in no way shows how pop culture cuts lines of socioeconomic factors. Total opposite.  It just shows me how ignorant and out of the loop some writers can be.

Let’s level set.  Do we all know what twerking is?  Essentially it’s gyrating your buttocks around in an erotic/ appealing manner.  It’s often associated with one of the oldest professions – stripping.  Twerking has been happening on poles and on dance floors for years.  It’s nothing new.  Yet I suppose because Miley “I want to be ratchet so bad” Cyrus does it, it’s considered a new fad.  And alas….twerking directions can now be found in your local newspaper.  Even people with PhDs are writing about this. Really??? Has America just totally gone mad and lost all of its ability to discern good news from bad? Listen, I’m certainly not above twerking it out.  But I don’t break it down for my mom either.

Why on earth would you highlight the hooker’s dance of choice? It’s the same old foolery that has been around for years.  I suppose it took a former Nickelodeon star to bring it to the forefront of society.  And even then shouldn’t we ignore it?  I thought there was a cardinal rule in place that we ignore ignorance.  Why are we giving attention to such foul behavior? Now twerking has made its way into the Oxford English Dictionary.  What??!!! Is Juicy J (Trippy) in there too?

For me, this ridiculous obsession with twerking is just another reminder of how our society is still in shambles.

And the funniest part of it all….. Miley can’t even twerk. SMH ….
