Diddy woke up dancing to James Brown this morning in excitement of his big day.
Today Diddy returned to his alma mater to deliver the commencement speech at Howard University. And he also received an honorary doctorate degree from HU, along with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
“In selecting the individuals who will be awarded honorary degrees, Howard University continues the tradition of identifying leaders whose work has clearly contributed to the advancement of their fields and the world. We are honored to have Mr. Combs serve as our speaker,” a statement from Howard reads. “He sat in classrooms where our students sit, walked ‘The Yard,’ and like many students, his entrepreneurial spirit was sparked at Howard. We know he will inspire our class to work hard and to always strive for excellence.”
I hear not everyone was particularly happy that Diddy was receiving such an honor. Here is a man that literally started from the bottom. He created his own record label, clothing line, vodka line, wine company, marketing company and yep … This little network called Revolt TV in the company of moguls like Oprah Winfrey.
To question his credentials is absolutely ridiculous and small minded.
I commend this brother whole heartedly. He deserved it. As we racially & economically evolve we need to do so w/ our thinking. A college degree can certainly inspire our youth but a man who established himself can reach a entirely different audience.
