MLB Players Association Question Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports

hov.cigarWell we knew this day would come.

The New York Daily News just published an article questioning how why the Major League Players Association ever deemed Jay Z worthy of certification as an agent in the first place.

The major gripes of agents point to the close associate of Hov, Desiree Perez. Desiree helps run the 40-40 Club in midtown Manhattan, but more importantly, despite the fact that she is not listed as an employee, officer or agent of Roc Nation Sports and is therefore not certified by the players’ union, she apparently was very much front and center in the negotiations between Cano and the Seattle Mariners. The day after the 10-year, $240 million deal was struck, Desiree was photographed partying with Cano and Seattle officials, and M’s GM Jack Zduriencik included her in the group of Roc Nation Sports principals he’d been wooing for weeks.

“So what you had here was a woman, who is a convicted felon and drug dealer, not certified by the (players’) union who is nevertheless sitting in on the contract negotiations. You tell me how this is good for baseball?” said a rival agent.

Agents are even pointing to Hov. Maintaining that an agent with his drug past should not be certified.
