Jennifer Hudson’s half-brother Stephen Angelo Simpson was arrested Tuesday (Aug. 19) after he allegedly stabbed a man on Monday night.
The stabbing took place at Stephen’s estranged wife’s apartment in Van Buren County, Mich., according to CBS’ WWMT.
He reportedly stormed into the apartment and repeatedly stabbed the woman’s current boyfriend in the face, chest and arms.
The victim was released from the hospital after receiving “20 or 30 stitches,” WWMT reports.
A neighbor told WWMT that the couple ran for help around 3 a.m. “He said someone knocked on the door. He thought he was knocking on the door for somebody, and he started getting stabbed up,” she said. “I open the door and see blood everywhere. He was stabbed in his chin and his chest, he had puncture wounds in his chest and his arms and stuff.”
Stephenson’s estranged wife “locked herself in the bathroom until he left,” Detective Adam DeBoer told WWMT.
Stephenson has been charged with first degree home invasion and attempted murder. He was on probation after several past arrests, including an assault against his wife in February.
This is the second time Hudson has faced a violent family affair. I think we all remember in October 2008 when Jennifer’s mother, brother and nephew were shot to death by her sister’s estranged husband, William Balfour. In July 2012, he was sentenced to three life sentences without parole.
