Why can’t female emcees get along?
Rah Digga came through and chatted it up with Thisis50’s Gossip Viv and Hynaken. She talked new music and Busta Rhymes, but it was the extended discussion about Iggy Azalea that raised my brows.
“Teach me Australian hip hop culture. Don’t come to America and try to convince me that you’re Gangsta Boo.”
My two-cents: I love Rah, but I’m rolling with Hynaken…who’s gives a f*ck if you’re nominated for a rap category and a pop category at an awards ceremony. If Iggy connected more to American hip-hop more than Australian hip-hop, why is that an issue? Look at people like Drake, Rihanna, Rita Ora…none are in their native country and all would be considered to have an American sound. Sometimes we get too wrapped up in the small things. I feel like the spectrum of hip-hop is large enough for an Iggy Azalea. She’s paid her dues. She’s worked hard. She’s considered a new mainstream artist, let her eat!
