Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer Tops Box Office

Denzel Washington’s latest film, The Equalizer, will top this weekend’s sales by landing the No. 1 spot and raking in $35 million.

This mark’s Denzel’s third biggest box office opening behind Safe House and American Gangster.

The Equalizer edged out the animated film, The Boxtrolls, which also debuted this weekend and earned $17.2 million.

And from the looks of things, the debut went so well that fans can look for a sequel.

“I’m pretty confident there will be a sequel,” Sony Pictures’ Rory Bruer said. “From the beginning, as the story begins to unfold, it had possible franchise written all over it.”
