So the latest Miss America winner from this weekend is Nina Davuluri, a young girl of Indian decent. Instead of basking in her win, we all may (or may not) be surprised to see that she spent part of her first press conference acknowledging the hate-spewed comments that followed.
“If you’re #MissAmerica you should have to be American,” one woman wrote. A second man appeared to agree while writing on his Twitter feed: “So miss america is a terrorist.”
“How the f–k does a foreigner win miss America? She is a Arab! #idiots,” another tweeted.
“Miss America? You mean Miss 7-11?”
You get the picture of the ignorance.
“I have to rise above that,” she said after her crowning in Atlantic City. “I always viewed myself as first and foremost American.”
Wow… its so nice to see that America has reached racial acceptance. (Sarcasm) Unbelievable…. So what is American? Is it just white? Now that President Obama is in office, does that list include African-Americans? Apparently being born in American is not enough.
For your FYI … Nina Davuluri is a native of Syracuse, N.Y. That means that she is American. She wants to be a doctor and is applying to medical school, with the help of a $50,000 scholarship she won as part of the pageant title.
Her parents, who are both from Vijayawada, immigrated to Missouri in 1981.She credits her father, a gynecologist affiliated with St. Joseph’s Hospital, as inspiring her desire to go into the field of medicine.
Seems like a regular girl to me.
