Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) has announced he’s retiring.
An audio message of the announcement is currently posted on Kanye’s Twitter feed. A driver may come from Yasiin’s troubles with the country of South Africa, where he was recently arrested at Cape Town International Airport for trying to leave the country on an illegal “World Passport” document.
Bey, who appeared in court last week, was ordered (along with his family) to leave the republic in 14 days. The rapper and his family had been living in South Africa “without the necessary permits” after overstaying on their visitor’s permit.
He closes the audio by rapping verses he previously performed for Kanye right before his daughter Nori was born. Yasiin also announced he will be retiring from the music industry and hollywood “effective immediately,” after releasing his final album later this year.
