iLoveMakonnen No Longer Signed to OVO

ILOVEMAKONNENMakonnen is no longer signed to OVO Sound.

In September 2014, the Atlanta rhymer was the latest addition to Drake’s roster, especially after teaming with the label boss for his breakout smash “Club Goin Up On A Tuesday” off his 2014 self-titled debut EP.

To some … it may seem as if the tension has been building for some time, though. Last May, Makonnen posted negative tweets about the team, writing, “f–k @drake: and @ovo for getting on @fettywap remix and leaving me in the #cold.” He later deleted them and said he was hacked. Then, in December, he gave a not-so-glowing endorsement of their relationship: “It’s cool, they put out my music and stuff and we just keep it moving. Let them tell you their relationship with Makonnen. I’m just an artist, being an artist, and there’s only so much that I can do.”

A rep for Warner Bros. reached out to XXL and confirmed that iLoveMakonnen is indeed off of OVO Sound. Below is Makonnen’s official statement:

“I cannot thank OVO, 40, Oliver, Future & Mr. Morgan, enough for all that they have done for my career. No words can express how much I appreciate Drake for being a part of the success of Tuesday. I’m sure the haters will have something negative to say, but all in all my choice to be solely on Warner Bros Records was the right thing for me and for my best interest. Sorry there’s no beef to report, DRINK MORE WATER.” ILOVEMAKONNEN

My two-cents: Did we not see this coming? No shade, but I don’t think OVO properly worked him. Furthermore … and this may sound like a stretch to some. There were some old tweets that Makonnen made that were not so nice about Drake. If I know the petty depths of Drake like I think I do, I 100% believe this played a part in his treatment … #IJS.
