You Go Bieber!

What the heck are you all doing to little Justin Bieber? After a two week relentless ride by the media, the kid has snapped and responded via Instagram. I woke up this morning to this:

“Everyone in my team has been telling me, ‘keep the press happy,’ but I’m tired of all the countless lies in the press right now. Saying I’m going to rehab and how my family is disappointed in me. My family is beyond proud, and nothing’s been said by them, my grandparents wouldn’t know how to reach to press even of they did want to so that was a lie and rehab c’mon. If anyone believes I need rehab that’s their own stupidity.  LOL. I’m 19 with 5 number one albums, 19 and I’ve seen the whole world. 19 and I’ve accomplished more than I could’ve ever dreamed of. I’m 19 and it must be scary to some people to think that this is just the beginning.”

“I know who I am and I know who I’m not.  My message is to believe. My albums could be about anything but my messages have been to never say never and believe, not to believe in me, but to believe in yourself .. I honestly don’t care if you don’t believe in me because I believe in me, my friends believe, my family believe, my fans believe and look where that’s gotten me so far … I’m writing this with a smile on my face and love in my heart. Letting u know first hand how I feel rather than have these story linger. I’m a good person with a big heart. And don’t think I deserve all of this negative press I’ve worked my ass off to get where I am and my hard work doesn’t stop here…All this isn’t easy.  I get angry sometimes.  I’m human.  I’m gonna make mistakes.  I’m gonna grow and get better from them. But all the love from you guys overcomes the negativity. I love u.  Thanks.

Now the original post ended with a not-so-subtle jab at the media as well as Lindsey Lohan, another distresses star. “And to those comparing me to Lindsey Lohan,” he wrote. “Look at her 2012 tax statements ;)”

Boom! Somebody was mad.

In Bieber’s defense he did edit the last sentence immediately.  In a statement to TMZ, he said, “My post was only up for a few minutes but I realized right away that what I said at the end was wrong and distracted from what I was trying to say.  Immediately deleted it and rewrote it so it would show what I was really feeling and those words are up now.”

As always, lets level-set so we’re all on the same page.  This kid has had a rough couple of weeks – concert cancellations due to illness, paparazzi battles and nightclub misunderstanding the day of his birthday.  For the most part – if you ignore that attempted pap attack – he’s tried to keep it together, letting fans know he’s doing okay until…yesterday when he posted that 300-word rant.

I wouldn’t say I have Bieber fever, but I’m scratching my head to figure out what this kid has done that was so bad.

(Steps on soapbox) America – the best nation, but also the biggest hypocrite ever.  We build you up only to tear you down.  We provide certain people with millions of dollars but they dare not count that money and they must behave under a specific set of standards that we don’t even hold ourselves too. Here is a young man trying to do something good with his life and we are literally tearing him down strand by strand. For days now, the media has ran stories predicting his downfall. To support this weak allegation, they’ve picked apart his every reaction. Call him crazy if he becomes angry when the media crosses the line and publicly demeans him.  Say he’s headed to a Britney (as in Spears) meltdown if dares to take off his shirt. But never once do we consider the scrutiny and taunting he endures. If one person remotely looks at me cross-eyed at work, I’m somewhere being talked off a ledge by a friend. How this kid deals with the relentless verbal battery by lazy bitter adults is beyond me.

Even today as the story carries on, people are now mad because he had the audacity to mention his success.  Really??? So you can be successful but you can’t mention it because it’s perceived as being spoiled?  The way we’re treating him, he better be his own cheerleader or we’ll take his self-esteem as well. He HAS HAD 5 number one albums, and he HAS traveled the whole world. If his acknowledgment of those facts makes you upset, you should check yourself.  People who are fulfilled and happy have nothing but admiration for others doing great things.

And who cares about Lindsey Lohan? I said it.  I said what everyone is thinking.  Now granted, I don’t think that because her life is a debacle that gives us the right to mistreat her.  What he said was very distasteful.  But raise your hand if you’re losing sleep…..(Crickets chirp in the back ground as I wait.) ….That’s what I thought.  With her assistance, America has already raked Lindsey over the coals. Many of us have written her off; most a long time ago. And now we’re shocked because Bieber is acknowledging what the media spent years telling everyone. Lindsey Lohan has become synonymous with a bad thing. Hell no Bieber doesn’t want to be compared to her. Now… I would not have gone in for the low blow of comparing my income to Lindsey.  But worst things have been said about her.  Don’t d*mn this kid for repeating it.

One more thing….I can’t ignore the pot situation. About a month or so ago one of Bieber’s so-called friends released a pic of him smoking. I don’t want to condone weed but… really America are we all so perfect?  Half of us can’t even manage our money, our consumption of alcohol, families or weight. A 19-year-old smoking pot.  We’ve got to have bigger fish to fry.  Had that picture not been released, it would have never been a topic of discussion, so I actually don’t have much to say on it.  Yep, we all know drugs are bad. He’s in a role model position whether he accepts that or not so he has be cognizant of the choices he makes.  Outside of that maybe he should pick better friends.

Whether you love Bieber or hate him, anyone who captures the attention of this many people at once is an asset and we shouldn’t break him.  We should lift him so he can in return continue to give back in positive ways. We have got to do better by our kids. Like it or not, he’s part of the future.
