Kendrick Lamar Takes Aim at Drake

klI was told by an informant that Kendrick may have grazed Drake at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, but of course that person had no lyrics to quote.

Well someone leaked a snippet of Kendrick’s cypher performance that stayed up long enough for people to get juice.

So let’s just backtrack for a moment.  I like for everyone to be on the same page.

We all remember some weeks ago when Big Sean was body-bagged leaked “Control” featuring Kendrick Lamar and he proclaimed the throne of over his peers including Drake. Most emcees ignored it, but not Drizzy…and in his defense how could he?  Out of the laundry list of emcees called out, he’s the one with the latest project.

When asked by Billboard about Kendrick’s “Control” verse, Drake replied, “I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic.”

Fast forward to today.  Looks like that day has arrived.

Smartly and strategically, Kendrick seized the timing and took a subtle jab at Drake during his cypher.

“Nothing’s been the same since they dropped ‘Control’ / And tucked the sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes,” Kendrick Lamar says in his cypher verse. “Ha-ha, jokes on you / High-five, I’m bullet proof / Your shits will never penetrate / Pin the tail on the donkey, boy, you’ve been a fake.”

He didn’t mention Drake’s name but the first line says it all.

2013 BET Hip-Hop Awards airs on Tuesday, October 15 at 8pm EST.
